Which method should NOT be used to locate a vein for IV insertion?

In the context of locating a vein for IV insertion, shaving hair from the arm is not a recommended method. While having a clear view of the skin can sometimes help in locating veins, shaving hair can lead to skin irritation, increase the risk of infection, and does not necessarily enhance the ability to locate a vein.

In contrast, applying a tourniquet can help engorge veins, making them more visible and palpable; palpating for a vein gives tactile feedback that indicates the presence of a vein; and using a warm compress can promote vasodilation, which makes veins easier to find. These methods are much safer and effective compared to shaving, which has little practical benefit in the IV insertion process.
